Saugeen Shores council has approved a change to the speed limit on Concession 6 in the south end of Port Elgin.
Council approved a staff recommendation to reduce the speed limit, now that there is an entrance to the new Lamont Sports park on Concession 6, as well as reports from residents with safety concerns, accident close calls, trail crossing, and employment lands construction.
The limit will be 40km/hr from Highway 21 to 500m east of the highway, then 60km/hr from that point (500m east of the highway) to 1000m. After that, it would be 80km/hr (from 1000m east of Hwy 21 heading east to join Sideroad 18/19).
Staff say the proposed speed limit revision on Concession 6 is in line with the recommendations of the Transportation Master Plan and in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
Staff say there have been three reported collisions on the stretch of road since between Highway 21. One was at the intersection of Highway 21 and the other two were at the intersection with Sideroad 13/14.
Staff say they will monitor the area and bring forward more modifications for council consideration if needed.
