It’s Summerfolk weekend in Owen Sound!
The 39th edition of the Music and Crafts Festival opens at Kelso Beach Park on Friday with thousands of people expected to attend.
President of the Georgian Bay Folk Society, Phil Bye, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News Summerfolk requires months of preparation to achieve success.
Dozens of artists are scheduled to perform, including Buffy Sainte Marie, Valdy, Our Shotgun Wedding, Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards and local songwriter Larry Jensen.
This year will mark Jensen’s 20th appearance at Owen Sound Summerfolk, and as a trivia reminder he was the very first act at the first Summerfolk in 1976.
Bye says the talent from Grey-Bruce is often a highlight at the festival.
The gates open at 6 PM on Friday and at 10:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday.
According to Bye, the Circus Fire Show will take the stage on Saturday at 11 PM.
He tells us it’s sure to be a spectacular performance.
Tickets are still available at the door — it’s $112 for adults and $99 for students.
Summerfolk has an annual budget of $400,000, and it draws tourists from across the province to Bruce-Grey-Owen-Sound.
