People will be dining out Saturday night to help local conservation efforts.
The 17th annual conservation dinner is being put on again by the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
Jack Doherty, a member of both organizations, says this is one of his favourite committees to sit on, because they raise money for needed projects, and have a lot of fun.
In the past, the proceeds of the dinner have gone to the fish re-stocking programs.
Doherty says they raise Chinook salmon and rainbow trout to release into the Sydenham River, and brown trout for the Owen Sound bay.
This year, the money will go to the revitalization of Bothwell’s Creek near Highway 26 just outside of Owen Sound.
Doherty believes the project will cost a total of anywhere from 10 to 15 thousand dollars.
There is also a raffle and a silent auction to help raise money.
Some items up for bid include a chainsaw and firearms, but Doherty says there is a wide range of items, because they’ve learned over the years that the ladies like to come out and have fun too.
The dinner will be catered by the Boot & Blade Restaurant, and it all takes place at the Bayshore Community Centre with a social hour at 5:30 PM and dinner served at 7 PM.
