A protest parade is set for Saturday by opponents of wind turbines in the Saugeen Shores area.
The group STOP — or Saugeen Turbine Operation Policy — and the Bruce County chapter of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture have organized the parade that will run right through downtown Port Elgin.
Organizer Greg Schmalz expects a big turnout, and says Saugeen Shores Police will be providing an escort thru the town.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker and Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb are among the speakers at the parade and rally.
At the same time, Schmalz says they will be collecting signatures for a petition, backing a motion by Huron Bruce Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson at Queens Park.
That motion which calls for a moratorium on industrial wind turbine development, is to be voted on March 8th.
The parade begins at 1 PM on Saturday at the industrial park beside the Plex.
It will move through downtown Port Elgin to the gates of the CAW Family education centre in Port Elgin.
The CAW is building a 76 metre high turbine in Port Elgin, despite objections from neighbours.
