Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell is in Vaughan today, hearing the highlights of Don Drummond’s report on how to eliminate the provincial deficit.
His report calls for major cuts by the Liberal government of Dalton McGuinty over the next few years.
However, Mayor Haswell doesn’t see anything too worrisome in the report that would impact municipalities.
Haswell says there is one section that refers to police sticking to core-functions, and she wonders if he is talking about courtroom security.
The province is supposed to pick up that cost from municipalities over the next few years, and Haswell wonders if Drummond is pushing for special constables to do the job as a cost saving measure.
Mayor Haswell says it’s an opportunity to get more detail on his 362 recommendations and to express some concerns she has with the province.
