This year’s Ontario Good Roads Association meeting in Toronto could see a protest-walkout by several area politicians.
Several area Mayor’s are considering walking out on Premier Dalton McGuinty during his speech on Monday that opens the Convention.
McGuinty is due to address the conference at 8:45 AM on Monday.
Chatsworth Council voted earlier this month to support a resolution from Arran-Elderslie Council — which calls for a moratorium on all wind turbine construction.
Several area municipalities are upset with the Green Energy Act, which gives them little control over whether wind turbines are built in their area.
Arran-Elderslie also is calling on area municipalities to walk out when Premier McGuinty begins speaking, but just how many municipalities will participate isn’t clear.
Chatsworth Mayor Bob Pringle is ready to take part in the protest, as long as most area municipalities join in.
Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell does not support the walk out — she considers it childish and says it won’t accomplish anything.
Meanwhile, the Good Roads meeting runs from Monday to Wednesday in Toronto.
It provides local mayors and councillors with a chance to bring local issues to the attention of the Premier and cabinet ministers.
