A Huron County Beef Farmer is the recipient of the Environmental Stewardship Award from the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association.
Jim Ginn has a 300-acre cow-calf farm near Clinton and has been working on environmental projects to better the land for nearly 25 years.
He says it all started with an incentive to put up fencing and restrict cattle from two streams that run through his property.
Ginn says watching the remarkable difference as the stream banks quickly built back up and fish started to come back proved to him that if it helps the environment and your bottom line, there’s no reason not to take on projects like that.
He says forestry management, no-till farming and planting native grasses are all things that are good for the environment and help increase the profitability of the operation.
Ginn says there are lots of farmers in rural Ontario who work hard and help the environment.
He says even more can get on-board when they realize the effectiveness of stewardship practices.
