The Grey-Bruce Health Unit has been chosen as the initial test site for the Panorama vaccine pilot program.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program Manager Sarah Ellis explains Panorama is a province wide initiative that aims to collect an electronic database of everyone’s immunization records.
Ellis says they’ll work with Provincial IT staff to collect and input the data, and offer feedback on how well the program is working.
The goal is to provide more accurate and timely immunization data that can be easily accessed.
Ellis notes the information system they use now is 30 years old, and needs updating.
For now, she says they’ll focus on children’s immunization record for the pilot…which begins next month.
A full scale version of the program is expected to go into effect in March 2013.
As for privacy concerns, Ellis says the Ministry of Health will deal with those issues through a privacy application when other Health Units are brought on board.
