South Bruce OPP are sending another warning about ice safety after two youth had to be rescued from the ice at Walkerton Dam.
Police say the youngsters were trapped on unstable thin ice on Wednesday.
The OPP is using the incident and the fresh snowfall this weekend to remind people that ice does not freeze that quickly.
In fact — Heavy snow on frozen lakes and rivers can insulate the ice below, causing the ice to freeze slower.
And the ice does not freeze at a uniform thickness across most lakes and rivers.
Clear blue ice is the strongest. White or opaque ice is much weaker.
Police say you should also let others know if you’re planning to go out ice fishing or snowmobiling.
And parents should remind their children about the dangers of ice.
