The new ‘Walkerton District Community School’ will be open for high school students, the week of April 30th.
The Bluewater Public School Board confirms parents were told in a newsletter last week that secondary students from the old Walkerton high school will move in this Spring.
Superintendent of Secondary Education Alana Murray says elementary students from the two existing schools in Walkerton will move to the new JK to Grade 12 facility this coming September.
The Accommodation Review Committee recommended a new JK to Grade 12 facility in Walkerton, to replace the existing Walkerton District Secondary, Brant Central and Walkerton Public School.
Murray says the new 115,400 square foot school will be finished by the end of April, but they decided to stagger the move — simply to make it easier to organize.
She feels staff and students will be glad to get into the new surroundings, with the school right next to the existing high school.
