The Owen Sound Museums need some help for a couple of upcoming exhibits.
Museum Manager Mary Smith says they are asking the public to submit any works they might have, preferably as a donation but it can be done as a loan too.
Smith says they are opening an exhibit called “The Art of War” at the Billy Bishop Home and Museum on June 2nd.
She says they’ve never done an exhibit like this before, so they are looking for any art created during the World Wars or inspired by them.
Smith says they’re looking for the personal aspect of the pieces, as soldiers may have written poems or letters, or created artwork, to express their feelings during the war.
But she says there was also a lot of propaganda at the time that captured the feelings of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Marine and Rail Museum is putting together an exhibit to capture the end of the rail era in Owen Sound.
Smith says passenger service came to an end in the 1970s, and freight service ended in the late 1980s.
She says that left an impact on businesses and passengers, and they want to look back on that time.
Smith says they are collecting any memorabilia such as train tickets, schedules or pictures.
That exhibit will open on April 15th.
