There will be plenty of places to catch live music in Owen Sound this weekend.
Lupercalia opened Friday night with a Roxy Theatre Gala featuring a “beer-hall orchestra,” the Silver Hearts, and singer-songwriters.
But the busy night will be Saturday — when over 20 venues in downtown Owen Sound are filled with musicians.
Organizer Josh Richardson of Mudtown Records says the support for this event has grown since their first one last year, and it came to be because of demand from the public after their successful “Otherfolk” festival.
He says this year they have over 100 performers and exhibitors.
Richardson says each venue will host a different genre of music — and they have something for everyone.
He says there are venues for male singer-songwriters, female singer-songwriters, young up-and-comers, hipsters, veterans of the local music scene, and the “wild men of rock.”
Richardson says there is also a venue on electronica — a genre of music Mudtown has been focusing on in all of their events.
He says it’s not always recognized as a form of music, but it is quickly gaining popularity and there is a wealth of talent in the Owen Sound community.
Richardson says they decided which venues would host which genres, based on the type of audience they attract on a daily basis.
