Georgian Bluffs has agreed to extend their current recreation agreement with the City of Owen Sound.
Although council originally voted against extending the deal, Mayor Al Barfoot says they’ve agreed to a three per cent increase for 2012.
However, Barfoot says they’re still in the midst of negotiating a new deal.
One of the reasons Georgian Bluffs didn’t want to sign a new agreement is because of the City’s new deal with the YMCA to take over certain aspects of recreation.
That being said, at Wednesday’s Council meeting — a motion was passed agreeing to the 3 per cent increase — which works out to close to 48 thousand dollars for 2012.
The agreement allows Georgian Bluffs residents to participate in sports in Owen Sound for the same cost given to city taxpayers.
And timing couldn’t have been better as Owen Sound just raised their rates for non-residents or municipalities without an agreement from 75 dollars to 100 dollars.
Nearly 14 hundred kids from Georgian Bluffs played sports in Owen Sound last year.
