The numbers are in, as Saugeen Shores Council has finalized the 2012 budget.
Treasurer Lori Sweiger presented the budget at Monday’s Council meeting — and Saugeen Shores ratepayers are looking at a 2.64 per cent tax rate increase this year.
That works out to an extra 30 dollars a year for the average assessed home.
Mayor Mike Smith says he’s happy with the final figures…noting the consumer price index is set at around 3.1 per cent.
Smith adds recent census data shows the population of Saugeen Shores is growing faster than most other local municipalities — so he’s happy that property taxes are staying on the low end of the range.
Initial budget deliberations had the increase set at 3.13 per cent, but council was able to whittle that down.
Smith says the total operating and capital budget is about 35 million dollars, and water and sewer rates will also rise by two per cent.
