Some good news at the Owen Sound Hospital.
The Diagnostic Assessment Program for Thoracic (lung) Cancer will once again be offered this year.
At Thursday’s board meeting — Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Maureen Solecki announced 120 thousand dollars in funding from the South West Regional Cancer Program.
Solecki explains the funding allows them to retain a “nurse navigator” they hired last year when the program was launched.
She says the main responsibility of the nurse navigator is to manage the treatment schedule of a patient who is diagnosed with lung cancer.
Solecki says the program enjoyed great success last year, and provides a level of comfort to patients when they know someone is making sure they are cared for every step of the way.
New to the program this year is the inclusion of prostate cancer patients.
Solecki says they are in the process of coordinating with other hospitals in the Southwest LHIN — to put together a DAP for these patients as well.
