The Ontario Trillium Foundation is providing 58 thousand dollars for the new Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound.
The money will help fully equip the Aquatic Centre at the new multi-million dollar facility on the City’s east side.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker was on hand Wednesday for a cheque presentation from the province to the Rec centre fundraising committee.
Walker says the aquatic centre will be a great asset for the city and area, helping local residents get fit and stay in shape.
The Owen Sound Aquatic Club (OSAC), in collaboration with the Owen Sound Family Y and the Owen Sound Otters Special Olympic Swim Club applied for the grant in 2011.
The application was put together by Tim Nichols-Harrison, who says there was no funding in the Rec Centre budget to equip the Aquatic Centre with the equipment necessary for competitive training and swim meets.
In addition to the grant, contributions of 20 thousand dollars from OSAC, four thousand dollars from the Owen Sound Family Y and 1 thousand from the Owen Sound Otters, will bring the total to $83,100 that will be used to help equip the Aquatic Centre at the Regional Recreation Centre.
The equipment will be shared between all three organizations.
The list of items for the facility includes lane ropes, starting blocks, aquatic wheelchairs, special PFD’s and a time clock system.
