The Port Elgin BIA plans to expand their geographic territory and raise membership fees.
The President of the Business Improvement Area Jeff Carver says the last time the rates and territory boundaries were adjusted was 32 years ago — back in 1980.
Carver says in order to function properly, they have to re-adjust.
The Port Elgin BIA recently voted unanimously in favour of the change at their annual general meeting.
Carver has also pitched their plans to Saugeen Shores Council.
Council requested that Clerk Linda White draw-up a report for their consideration during this year’s budget deliberations.
Carver told council their current budget is a mere six thousand dollars — which he notes doesn’t allow them to do much of anything.
He says they need more money for promotion, product development and beautification.
But Carver wouldn’t say how much of an increase their seeking.
