A Port Elgin teen says competing in the Miss Teen Canada Ontario pageant was a great experience, and she’s excited to do more.
Taylor Hamilton says the pageant, held a week ago Saturday, was her first.
Hamilton did not make the top 18 that move on to Miss Teen Canada, but she says it was a great learning experience.
They 17 year old Saugeen District Secondary student says it gave her a lot of confidence with public speaking, and in believing in herself.
Hamilton adds it cleared up a lot of misconceptions about pageants and the girls who compete in them.
She says a lot of the girls were like her, competing for their first time, and were there because they wanted to promote change.
Hamilton’s platform was about how social media portrays an image of teens that isn’t always true.
She says from here she hopes to compete in other pageants, and pursue a career in modelling.
She says she has a meeting coming up with an agent, and she says the competition opened some doors for her.
Hamilton says she would encourage any young girl considering competing in a pageant to do it — because it’s good for self-esteem and helps you prepare for your future.
