Some disappointing news for high school students who graduate this year.
The province has cancelled the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship program.
It has been one of the most lucrative scholarship programs available to students — awarding students up to 35 hundred dollars for four years for academic excellence.
Bruce Grey Catholic Director of Education Bruce MacPherson says many of their graduates relied on the scholarship for College and University costs.
In fact — about 20 students from St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart High Schools applied for the scholarship.
MacPherson speculates the province’s decision to cancel the program is another sign of the economic times.
He encourages students to research and investigate what other scholarships are available.
