Veyance Technologies is scheduled to close July 31st — but company officials are trying to negotiate an early shutdown of the Owen Sound plant.
Workers are Veyance Technologies are under contract until the end of July, and according to the deal they must be given six months notice of any closure.
A source tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the company gave six months notice when it announced the closure on Tuesday.
But the United Steelworkers and Veyance officials will meet this coming on Monday to negotiate a buyout.
The meeting in Toronto on Monday, is expected to lead to an early shutdown of the facility.
There are about 35 employees in Owen Sound who will be out of a job when the plant closes.
One worker tells us, they have been busier over the last few days and the closure announcement came as a surprise.
The company makes power transmission belts for automotive and industrial applications.
