City staff are getting ready to move into the new Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound.
The arena portion is set to be completed by mid-March.
Mayor Deb Haswell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that’s when the first wave of employees will enter the facility.
Those workers will be followed by “Y” staff who should be moving in April and the pool should be complete sometime in June.
Haswell says they need to first get staff into the building and familiar with its equipment before they plan a grand opening.
Like any other construction project, Haswell says a set timeline for completion just isn’t realistic.
She is amazed at the building’s energy saving equipment, like the eco-chill system underneath the ice.
Haswell says they’ve spent their money well.
The fundraising team has achieved over 80 per cent of their fund raising goal of 5 million dollars, thanks to over 700 donations so far.
The new home of the Owen Sound family YMCA and a double ice pad arena…. the Regional Rec centre triples the size of the current aquatic facilities and doubles the arena and workout space.
The project price tag is 39 million dollars.
