February 1st is day one of a new challenge put out to the public from Big Brothers and Big Sisters Hanover and District.
The organization is trying to recruit 40 volunteers in 40 days, to mark their 40th anniversary.
Executive Director Chantal La Duke admits its not an easy feat.
But La Duke says demand for their programs has jumped dramatically in the past 18 months.
The wait list has jumped to 100 plus children in that time.
More than half of the children on the wait list live in Walkerton and Saugeen Shores.
La Duke says their wait list typically has 20 to 30 kids on it.
La Duke says they need volunteers for all programs including their In School Mentoring Programs.
That program pairs volunteers with kids for one hour a week in-school.
They also need volunteers for their group programs.
La Duke says it just takes one hour a week to change a child’s life.
