Winter weather was a major factor this past weekend in the 11 collisions reported to the OPP on the Bruce Peninsula.
Police say eight vehicles went into the ditch with varying amounts of damage.
One car struck a deer on Highway 21 east of Southampton and two vehicles were involved in a parking lot collision.
In the most serious collision on Bruce Road 13 early Saturday morning — a 70-year-old Georgian Bluffs man had to climb out of the rear window of his vehicle as the cab of his Mazda pick-up was filling with water.
The man was not injured in the ordeal.
Although Bruce County winters come every year without fail, OPP say it seems that the message of driving at speeds appropriate for road and weather conditions is often forgotten.
Their message is to — slow down.
The extra time on the road getting to your destination will be far shorter and less expensive then getting your vehicle pulled from the ditch.
