The Owen Sound Crisis Pregnancy Centre hopes an expanded space will raise its profile in the community.
Spokesperson Wanda Porter says they’ve been around for 13 years in a rear unit on 10th Street East, but now the space has expanded so they have a front entrance on the main block between 2nd and 3rd Avenue East.
Porter says they’ve wanted to have the name and signage out there a little bit more, because a lot of people still don’t know this service exists.
She says they offer free and confidential support services for anybody of any age that is facing an unplanned pregnancy.
She says counsellors are there to help clients with whatever decision they make.
Porter says they offer free pregnancy testing and post-abortion counselling as well, in one-on-one and group settings.
And Porter says they don’t discriminate based on age — nor does it matter how long ago a woman might have had an abortion.
There is even a free clothing room which provides maternity clothes, and baby clothing up to size four.
Porter says they’re excited to have more space to work in, and they’re holding an open house today.
She hopes that a lot of people in the community come out to find out more about the centre.
The open houses run from 2 PM to 4 PM and again from 7 PM until 9 PM.
