A fleet of 70 busses helped bring union members from across Ontario to a rally at London’s Victoria Park in support of locked-out Electro-Motive workers.
The busses transported representatives from the Huron District Labour Council, as well as the Grey Bruce Labour Council.
Huron District Labour Council President Jim Vance says about 45 members were aboard the two local busses, with as many workers driving to London on their own.
Organizers estimate 15 thousand protesters attended the event at London’s Victoria Park.
Speakers included CLC president Ken Georgetti, CUPE president Paul Moist, and CAW head Ken Lewenza.
Lewenza calls the firm, owned by Caterpillar, a “poster child for corporate greed.”
Local labour council president Jim Vance was impressed that London’s civic representatives were in attendance.
Vance says he can’t be disappointed in the reaction of Prime Minister Stephen Harper– as there hasn’t been a reaction.
He believes Caterpillar has no intention to settle the dispute — its real ambition is to move the plant out of Canada.
