The future of the Hanover Police Dispatch service is uncertain.
West Grey has decided to switch to the Owen Sound Police Dispatch in 2013.
And now the Hanover Police Board is giving a one year notice to its customers — including the Wingham police department and 21 fire departments in Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties.
Vice Chair Rick Hopkins says the notice doesn’t mean that the Hanover Police Dispatch Service will disband.
Hopkins says nothing has been decided and the Police Board is just keeping its options open.
The Hanover Police Board will meet on January 31st to discuss those options and crunch the numbers.
The biggest concern is whether or not the Hanover Police Dispatch service can be viable without West Grey’s contract.
But Hanover operates the dispatch service at a deficit already.
The Hanover Police Department employees nine dispatchers — six full time and three part time employees.
