Kincardine Council is exploring options related to funding for the proposed Kincardine Family Health Team Centre.
At Wednesday’s Council meeting — Family Health Team Executive Director Gerry Glover requested a five year lease with a base rate determined by council.
There would then be a supplement paid on top of that — designated for improvements and renovations.
For example, Glover says they are aiming for a lease rate of 13 dollars a square foot per month…plus any money set aside for lease hold repayment or fix-ups.
Glover notes they are looking to lease about 22 hundred square feet of space below the Kincardine Community Medical Centre.
He notes they are also looking for a 100 thousand dollar loan from council to build office space and exam rooms for the Family Health Team.
Glover stresses they don’t want to exceed 100 thousand dollars in funding, because their project would then fall under a “Tier 3” funding formula set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
That would mean the project could be delayed 9 to 12 months because of red tape associated with establishing new lease rates and cost estimates.
The project has already been delayed in the past, as construction was supposed to begin on September 1st, 2011 — but they couldn’t get Ministry approval in time.
The Family Health Team includes a physiotherapist, several physicians, a social worker and a councillor — and they are trying to recruit a nurse practitioner.
