Saugeen Shores council may be the next SMART municipality.
Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit — or SMART — has made a pitch of their transportation services to Council.
Currently Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Hanover, Kincardine and West Grey have contracts with SMART.
Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says they’ve known for some time they need a service like what SMART offers for their aging population.
But the Deputy Mayor says even though SMART can provide the service for about 20 dollars a ride — they have a couple of options including a proposal from First Student.
He says they will consider all options during the operational portion of their budget.
SMART provides non-emergency medical, employment and social transportation for individuals and groups.
SMART has a fleet of 14 vehicles including eight accessible vans and five buses.
