Students looking to open their own business this summer can now apply for some start-up money.
There’s a few catches says Jane Phillips — the Manager and Business Consultant with Business Enterprise Centre of Owen Sound and Area.
Phillips says its only for returning students and you must be a full time student between the ages of 15 to 29 to apply for the Province-wide Summer Company Program.
Phillips says it’s a great way to gain experience writing a business plan and to be your own boss.
Students are eligible for up to 15 hundred dollars of their start up costs — but they can potentially receive 15 hundred dollars at the end of the program plus all the money they make over the summer.
Phillips says it really depends on how well they follow their business plan.
She says the Business Enterprise Centre mentors the students over the summer to help them with that.
About 35 students applied last year and Phillips says six of those applications were accepted.
One of Phillips favourite ideas was a honey producer that developed lip gloss and candles.
She says they encourage students to just follow their passion.
