Finally, the former “Around the Sound” building is about to come down.
Fire gutted the former market place last May and Owen Sound officials have been pushing the owner of the property to demolish the structure, over safety concerns.
It was slated to come down in October, but Chief Building Official Brian Green says there were complications.
The servicing for the remainder of the property, which is still open, all came from the basement area of the burned out building.
Green says crews are now rerouting water, sewer and hydro services, before the actual wrecking ball comes in to tear down the building.
It’s expected fencing will be put up shortly and Green says it will only take a day or two to bring the building down once the prep-work is done.
At this point, the owner of the property has not applied for any permit to rebuild on the site.
