Now that the new year has arrived, the Inter Township Fire Department hopes to begin talks with Chatsworth and Arran Elderslie on an fire service agreement.
Chief Carl Linthorne stresses they have nothing scheduled yet but he hopes they can begin discussions to serve the villages of Chatsworth and Tara.
He hopes they can work out agreements similar to what Georgian Bluffs and Meaford have done recently.
That agreement with Georgian Bluffs and Meaford is similar to years past but Linthorne says this year they added one new clause — an automatic aid provision.
Linthorne says the clause basically means they can dispatch two fire crews to structure fires in the boundary area between the coverage areas of Meaford and the Inter Township Fire Department.
He says it just gives residents better response times and it may also help with fire insurance costs.
Linthorne says it may also help lower the cost of fighting fires.
If and when Inter Township begins discussions with their partners to the South, Chatsworth and Tara, Chief Linthorne hopes they can reach a similar agreement.
