Hanover has put out a request for proposals — inviting consultants to come forward with a tender for the downtown revitalization project.
Mayor Kathi Maskell hopes to have a consultant hired in early Spring and their downtown action plan ready for Council by October.
The actual construction work won’t begin until 2013.
Maskell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the Downtown Revitalization Project is more than just focusing on retail and services.
She says the plan also involves creating a stronger social focus to make the downtown core more people friendly, so people can gather.
The plan also includes downtown beautification work and a desire to create more residential living spaces.
Maskell feels Hanover’s downtown is in need of the extra attention, especially since most of the town’s commercial growth is focused on the east end of town.
Hanover is setting aside about 30 thousand dollars in the 2012 budget for the project.
Maskell says it will be money well spent, and calls it an investment in Hanover’s future.
