There has been a big jump in the number of health care workers in Grey Bruce getting their flu shot this year.
Several weeks ago, the public Health Unit put a push on to get those workers to roll up their sleeves.
Now, the Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting on average — 69 per cent of those working in Nursing Homes, 72 per cent at retirement homes and 60 per cent in area hospitals have been immunized this season.
That is up from 50 per cent in 2010-11.
The Manager of the Infectious Disease Program, Karen Sweiger says all the numbers are up from a year ago.
Although there was no competition among the various facilities, the Errinrung Nursing Home in Thornbury reports 100 per cent of staff have been immunized against the flu.
A close second is Country Lane in Chatsworth, at 98 per cent with Elgin Abbey Nursing Home in Chesley at 97 per cent.
Local hospitals ranged from 44 per cent to 65 per cent, with Grey Bruce Health Services reporting 65 per cent of staff getting their flu shot.
Meanwhile, Country Care Seniors Residence in Allenford, Inglewood Villa in Owen Sound and New Horizons Retirement Home in Wiarton were among the highest for retirement homes, with 100 per cent of staff and residents vaccinated.
All rates are as of November 15, 2011, and Sweiger says current rates may be higher at individual locations.
She is pleased with the numbers and says it is not too late to get a flu shot.
