Big news today from the leadership group at Stone Tree Golf and Fitness.
At a news conference Thursday morning — Director of Operations Michael Todd announced they purchased the Owen Sound Golf and Country Club.
Todd looked relieved as he shared the news after previous unsuccessful bids by Stone Tree for the 91 year old course.
Stone Tree bid for the club back in July when it went into receivership with 1.1 million dollars owing to the Bank of Montreal.
tone Tree reached a deal around Christmas time with Kinsale Investments to purchase the 91 year old Stanley Thompson designed golf course.
Kinsale Investments still has control of the adjoining parcel of land, but its not clear at this point what type of development, if any, they have planned.
The deal will be finalized January 31st and Todd says they will begin their membership drive in February.
Perhaps to the surprise of some — Stone Tree have decided to change the name of the historic course and while they have a few options, Todd would not hint at what the new name will be.
He only said they will be re-branding the course, but at the same time recognizing its history.
