The future for a number of Zellers locations in our region is up in the air.
As you know — Target purchased 189 Zellers stores and has sold off 39 to Walmart.
But there are 84 remaining stores that were not involved in the deal announced last year.
The Zellers stores in Owen Sound, Hanover, Goderich and Collingwood were all left out of the multi-million dollar deal — and employees at those locations are concerned the stores will close.
Zellers Executive Communications Manager, Tiffany Bourre, says all four stores remain open while the parent company, The Hudson’s Bay Company, decides what to do with them.
Bourre says HBC is considering all options but wouldn’t go into specifics.
The only store in the immediate area that is involved in the Target takeover is the Listowel location.
It will close on June 2nd of this year, and Walmart will take over.
It isn’t known when the store will actually re-open under the new Walmart banner at Listowel.
