Bruce Power says it’s made some big advancements in the past year — its 10th year of operation.
In 2011, Bruce Power says it made many great advancements in many important programs, including its Restart program.
According to the nuclear company, generating a quarter of Ontario’s electricity through safe, reliable operations tops its list of accomplishments this year.
Completing the fuel loading on both Units 1 and 2 was another big accomplishment.
Bruce Power says it managed to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into the operating units through planned maintenance, which created 340 new full-time positions, and hundreds of other jobs in the region.
Other achievements include being named one of the 50 most engaged workplaces in Canada, and one of Canada’s 10 most outstanding employers for commitment to young people.
President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne says they also managed to donate over two million dollars to community initiatives and to relief efforts in Goderich and Japan.
Hawthorne adds he’s extremely proud of every employee at the Bruce this year, as it transitions towards becoming the world’s largest nuclear site in 2012.
