2011 marked a changing of the guard for the Owen Sound Police Service.
Bill Sornberger took over as the City’s Chief of Police in the fall — replacing Tom Kaye, who retired to join the National Parole Board.
Sornberger brings 35 years of policing to the job — the last four years as Deputy Chief in Owen Sound.
Sornberger says drug abuse is his number one issue in Owen Sound.
Sornberger notes prescription pills are being sold on City streets, but the bigger problem is binge drinking.
He notes leads to assaults, domestic violence and impaired driving.
Sornberger also wants the public to play a bigger role in 2012 when it comes to input into things like budgets.
The police budget for 2012 has a zero per cent budget increase — mainly due to the elimination of the Deputy Chief’s job.
But Sornberger says they still have the same amount of officers on the streets.
