The Checkered Eye Project — which originated in Saugeen Shores — has gone international.
Spokesperson Libby Thaw — who is a user of the program — started it about 10-years ago, asking the-then council to support it and spread the word.
The checkered eye is a wearable symbol that indicates its owner has low vision.
Thaw says it’s intended to add sensitivity in face-to-face situations.
Thaw says what started out as a locally-supported initiative has now spread across Canada and into the United States, and as far away as New Zealand.
