The Hanover and District Hospital wants to use social media.
The Hospital Board is investigating ways to use social media such as Facebook and Twitter as a means of engaging the community.
President and CEO Katrina Wilson says the possibilities are mind boggling.
Wilson says the Hospital Facebook page could contain photos and information on Hospital services.
Wilson says they could also post features on You Tube to showcase their obstetrics and dialysis departments.
Wilson says they could have external links — to let parents actually hear what a normal baby cough sounds like and when it’s time to see a doctor.
Hospital blogs, chat rooms with physicians, online smoking sensation and diabetes management programs are all other possibilities.
Wilson says social media could serve as a public outreach instrument for the Hospital and a marketing tool all at the same time.
But Wilson acknowledges the biggest challenge will be finding someone with the expertise to pull this all together.
Financing is another obstacle.
The board is looking at hiring students in the summer to launch this initiative.
