The Hanover and District Hospital is on its way to receiving accreditation for its new mammography equipment.
The Hospital has submitted six months of data and extensive documentation to the Canadian Association of Radiologists.
Vice President of Patient Care Esther Millar says it’s part of the process.
She notes phase two involves an in-depth analysis of four random exams.
If all goes as planned, the Hospital could receive accreditation status as early as the new year.
Millar says the accreditation will indicate the Hanover hospital meets all provincial standards and the service is of high quality.
She says it will also open the hospital doors to become a Breast Screening Site through Cancer Care Ontario.
Under the current system, physician referral is mandatory for mammography screening at the Hospital.
Millar hopes that will lead to higher screening stats among the local population.
Current stats indicate low breast screening numbers for women in the Bruce and Grey Counties.
