‘Tis the season for many of us to overindulge a bit — despite our best intentions.
It can range from overeating to maybe having a drink too many.
Canadian triathlete Kyle Jones — also a spokesperson for the Canadian Health Food Association — tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there are ways you can enjoy the holiday season without the guilt that comes after.
He advises us to drink plenty of water, get a good night’s sleep, get your exercise and try to eat as balanced a diet as you can.
Jones points out that moderation is key — especially at Christmas dinner.
He says a balanced plate with vegetables and salad and normal servings of turkey is better than loading up on just one or two things like turkey and potatoes.
One common sense thing Jones suggests is exercise to keep up your heart rate.
A good thing to do after dinner is to take a walk around the neighbourhood with friends or maybe walk the dog.
Jones believes you can’t function at peak efficiency if you haven’t had enough rest.
He counsels you to try to get six to eight hours of sleep a night.
Jones says if you’ve been out late at night then try to take a nap the following day to let the body recharge its energy level.
