Today we see the shortest amount of daylight all year — but PLAY Bruce-Grey wants you to make the most of those hours.
Today is the “Shortest Day of PLAY”, and Health Promoter Jason Weppler says they’re encouraging everybody to get out and do something active.
Originally, the PLAY program started out with the goal of getting kids more active, but Weppler says now they want everybody to take part.
He says the obesity rates in Grey-Bruce are higher than the provincial average, and that’s something they want to change.
Weppler says schools will be taking part with programs today, but he wants parents to get kids out after school as well.
He says it doesn’t have to be intense physical activity, but it could be something like playing in the park or going for a walk.
They’ve also set up a competition between the municipalities of Bruce and Grey.
You can log onto the website, www.playbrucegrey.com, and log your hours for your municipality.
Weppler says there will be a surprise for the top three.
