Workers at Bruce Power in Tiverton have reached another milestone.
Workers involved in Bruce Power’s Restart project are now at 15 million hours worked without an acute lost-time injury.
Bruce Power is very proud of that number and President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne says crews will work around the clock over the holiday’s to keep the project on track.
Hawthorne says the 15 million hours without an acute lost-time injury comes despite the fact they have been carrying-out Ontarios largest electricity infrastructure project in nearly two decades.
When Units 1 and 2 return to service, they will generate 15 hundred megawatts of electricity.
Earlier this month, Bruce Power announced they installed close to six thousand fuel bundles into 480 fuel channels on the reactor face of Unit 1.
Hawthorne says the fuel load on Unit 1 was completed in a week less than it took on Unit 2.
Bruce Power spokesperson John Peevers says they expect to sync Unit 2 to the electrical grid early in the first quarter of 2012 and commence commercial operation late in the quarter.
Unit 1 is expected to sync to the grid in the second quarter.
