Brockton is calling on the Grey Bruce Health Unit Board of Directors to reverse a decision to close the office in Walkerton.
Brockton Councillor Chris Peabody calls this another shot at Walkerton by public service bureaucrats that will result in the loss of jobs to the area.
The Brockton motion says the explanation given by Doctor Hazel Lynn is unacceptable — the Medical Officer of Health said the move was made after a receptionist left the job and this will allow more staff to be out in the field.
Peabody says Brockton was blindsided by the move since no one was told about the decision before the office was closed to the public.
He feels it will have a negative impact on Brockton’s economy.
Peabody also claims about a dozen nurses currently in Walkerton will eventually work out of Owen Sound.
He hopes the Board of Directors will see fit to reverse the decision.
Peabody says he is especially concerned with the private well water testing for ecoli.
Brockton residents must now take their water samples to the Hospital.
