The Grey Bruce Health Unit has introduced a proposal to ban smoking in some public spaces — such as parks, playgrounds, sports fields and even patios.
But Hanover Deputy Mayor Bob White says the proposed bylaw needs more work before they can approve it.
White says they are concerned about the cost and enforcement.
Mayor Kathi Maskell also wants more public consultation on the matter.
She feels it’s important there is public awareness and some consensus on the matter.
Maskell says there is also a need for consultation with the private sector — particularly restaurant owners with patios.
