A new committee has been named to carry on talks with turbine farm developers coming to the Kincardine area.
The committee is made up of councillors Candy Hewitt; Jacqueline Faubert; Maureen Couture and Deputy Mayor Anne Eadie.
The first job at hand is to enter into discussions with Samsung/Pattern Energy which wants to develop a 95-turbine farm in the Armow area.
As it stands now with Kincardine’s policy on wind turbines, only 5 could be erected.
However Kincardine is not the approving authority in wind power development and the companies could go ahead without adhering to the town policy.
Kincardine councillor Candy Hewitt says we need the lines of communication open to see if there is any wiggle room on either side.
Deputy Mayor Anne Eadie says she has some specific issues regarding community expansion and airport encroachment.
Meanwhile, Mayor Larry Kraemer says if there are going to be discussions, they have to be done in good faith.
He says that means, the municipality must be prepared to back off its turbine policy as part of the negotiations, should it be necessary.
Samsung and Pattern Energy have already indicated a willingness to sit down with the municipality to talk about the development.
