The Southampton Fire Department is getting a new pumper/rescue truck.
Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says town council has amended its 2011 budget to allow for the 238 thousand dollar purchase.
Eagleson says they’ve made a deal on a ready-built “demonstrator” truck, meeting the needs of the community, allowing for a cost savings of approximately 240 thousand dollars.
He says the vehicle will have three or four thousand kilometres on it but otherwise is brand new.
Eagleson says they’re also trading in an older pumper which further reduced the price.
Eagleson is hopeful the new vehicle will be at the Southampton Fire Hall before January.
