The Big Canoe should be in Owen Sound harbour for Christmas.
Owen Sound Transportation Company Spokesperson Susan Schrempf says work is wrapping up in Thunder Bay and the ship should be back in the water on December 20th.
The work included removing the drive shafts and they are just being re-installed.
Schrempf says they also painted the bottom of the ship during the 5 year inspection of the Chi Cheemaun.
On Wednesday, there is another survey to be completed and after that the ship can leave.
It’s expected the ferry will be in Owen Sound on December 23rd or 24th.
Schrempf says the inspection and servicing cost 1.7 million dollars but that is a capital cost picked up by the province.
As far as fares for 2012 are concerned, she says no decision has been made on what the rates will be.
