99 per cent of Grey County residents polled feel safe!
That is the result of the detachment’s Community Satisfaction Survey which gathered 382 responses through a telephone survey conducted between January and April.
It found 99 per cent of respondents feel safe in their community.
91.4 per cent were satisfied with the OPP’s work and 95.5 per cent were happy with the Police visibility on highways.
86 per cent said the OPP were at least somewhat involved in their community.
38 per cent of respondents said the biggest problem in their community was drug abuse and 33 per cent was due to drug labs.
Another 62 per cent indicated there was a problem with drugs in schools.
Grey County OPP Detachment Commander Bob Mahlberg says the survey provides invaluable information.
He says they will use the information to channel their policies and work to better reflect what is important to Grey County residents.

Respondents indicated yes when asked whether property crime (28.5%), nuisance activities (27.0%), alcohol abuse (31.7%), drug/substance abuse (38.1%) and illegal drug grows or labs (32.8%) were a problem in their community.
Respondents indicated yes when asked whether domestic violence (27.7%), child abuse (14.8%), sexual assault (15.1%) and elder abuse (14.5%) were a problem in their community.
Respondents indicated yes when asked whether youth gangs (3.3%), youth gathering on the streets (9.1%), drugs in schools (62.4%), violence in schools (37.1%) and lack of youth programs or activities (53.0%) were a problem in their community.
Of the 99 respondents who have had contact with the OPP in the past year, 87.9% were satisfied or very satisfied with the ease of contacting the OPP.
86.4% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the OPPs enforcement of aggressive driving laws
90.0% of the respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the OPPs enforcement of drunk driving laws
Of the 106 respondents who have had contact with the OPP as a result of a traffic situation, a property crime, or a violent crime. Contact with the OPP was either as a victim/witness or as an accused/charged person 77.4% of the respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the contact they had.
Overall, 93.4% of the respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of police service provided by the OPP.
92.4% of respondents felt safe or very safe walking alone at night.
Respondents indicated yes when asked whether alcohol offences in public areas (19.1%), vandalism to public and/or private property (29.7%) and residential break and enter (28.5%) were a problem in their community.
Respondents indicated yes when asked whether speeding within town limits (49.7%), speeding on township or country roads (58.1%) and speeding on provincial highways (61.8%) were a problem in their community.
Respondents were asked if the OPP officers in their community were approachable and friendly. 92% responded yes, 8% responded no.
Respondents were asked if the OPP are providing enough information to the public about their local programs and initiatives. 58% responded yes, 42% responded no.
OPP Grey County Detachment Commander, Bob MAHLBERG states, a survey such as this provides invaluable information in regards to how the community sees its police service. It also provides unique insights into what the residents feel are the problems within their community. With this information the police service boards and I will channel our policies and practices to better reflect what is important to the residents of Grey County.
The information collected will be useful in helping the OPP set out goals and objectives to improve on the diverse services it delivers to communities.
The results highlighted in this release are specific to the Grey County OPP Detachment based on 382 completed surveys (127 respondents from the Municipality of Grey Highlands; 111 respondents from the Municipality of Meaford; 64 respondents from the Township of Southgate; 62 respondents from the Township of Chatsworth and 18 respondents from the Township of Georgian Bluffs).
