A new child care centre continues to take shape in Wiarton.
Construction of the facility — dubbed “The Kids Den” — is now in the framing stage…according to Bruce County Director of Social Services Terry Sanderson.
Sanderson says construction crews encountered a few setbacks caused by a weak foundation, but he says the project is now back on track and on budget.
Sanderson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News this project has been a long time coming, and is badly needed in the Wiarton area.
He notes a number of families are currently on a waiting list for child care services, and they also want to provide an infant care centre.
Sanderson says the community has really stepped up to help with the project.
Local service agencies are helping to pay for fencing for the centre, and are pitching in to help furnish the building as well.
The project is being funded through a 130 thousand dollar loan from Bruce County, and an additional 100 thousand dollar grant.
The Youth and Children’s Services Ministry is pitching in 100 thousand and the rest is covered by a 150 thousand dollar mortgage taken out by the centre’s operators.
Sanderson adds there is no set timeline for completion of the facility, but he hopes to open the doors sometime in the new year.
